Biodiversity analysis

Analizador Biodiversidad here: www.ecoinformatica.cl/site/?q=analizador/ This is a biodiversity analyzer for www.redbiodiversidad.cl developed by partners at www.reuna.cl, www.ucn.cl, www.ufro.cl and www.umce.cl. It allows to query the database and provide comparative information for your request using www.gbif.org. Check it out and please leave us some feedback! This is a work in progress...

Genetic characterisation of species and metagenomics have proven to be useful to identify and classify biodiversity on the base of their genetic differentiation. "Barcoding" has emerged as an important tool to classify species on a global scale without relying exclusively on morphology (see http://www.barcodeoflife.org/content/about/what-dna-barcoding). "Metagenomics" allows to characterise the genetic constitution of random samples in the environment without the need of explicitly knowing the identity of species sampled. Such approach is extremely useful to assess biochemical changes in the environments associated to particular ecological structures.

Niche structure and analysis is gaining serious tracking as a tool to understand how species cope with their environment. In particular, Environmental Niche Modelling has emerged as very useful to research the relation between species' ecology and its evolution with particular implications in the context of the vast changes that humans are inflicting to the environment and habitat. These approaches provide a large array of statistical modelling procedures allowing, not only to evaluate the impact of Climate Change, but provides the means to understand evolutionary processes within taxonomic groups.
